Life for Arunima has never been a smooth one and perhaps it is not, for anyone in this universe. However the killer instinct that she has, to do the unthinkable is rare. As an amputee who has scaled highest peaks in nearly five continents, she epitomizes a woman who has never learnt to give up that easy. A woman who suffered a personal tragedy, she now has a unique penchant to scale heights, and that too with great panache.
Known for scaling Everest, UP’s wonder woman Arunima Sinha has conquered the a pyramid of Indonesia.
The 4484 metre assent to Carstensz Pyramid was tough, but she managed it with great elan.
Arunima’s aim is to climb highest peaks in all continents’ and unfurl the Indian flag. She has scaled five peaks Everest in Asia, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Europe, Kosizko in Australia, Aconcagua in Argentina (South America) besides Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya)in Indonesia.
Born in 1988, Arunima is the first female amputee to climb Everest.
Sinha was thrown off a train by thieves on April 11, 2011, while on her way from Lucknow to Delhi to apply for admission to the Central Industrial Security Force. It was at this point that one of her legs had to be amputated. This after she resisted thieves. She was just 26, but the Padmavati Express tragedy made her conquer new heights.
As soon as she left the hospital, Sinha got in touch with Bachendri Pal—the first Indian woman to climb Mt Everest. Following this they got into a training regime at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Even after she began training in earnest, Sinha’s right leg would sometimes bleed or swell up. After a while her practice made her perfect.
After 18 months of careful training, and climbing other peaks in preparation, Sinha finally reached the summit of Mt Everest.
It took her 52 days of rigorous climbing to conquer the world’s highest peak – the 8,850 m (29,000 sq ft) summit.

Speaking to channels Arunima had said that lying in bed she had made up her mind that she will not let people pity her.
For Sinha, cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been an inspiration.
Arunima also plans to open a sports academy for the poor and physically disabled children, for which she has already bought a piece of land in Unnao.
Interestingly Arunima joins a club of mountain climbers from UP, who have been going from one height to the other. Several mountaineers from the state have made it big. From Noida’s full-time climber who scaled Everest, to a schoolboy who climbed the world’s highest volcano UP is going great guns.
Noida’s Arjun Vajpai (23) climbed Mount Everest when he was just 17. Since then, he has climbed three other peaks.

Meanwhile Arunima Sinha is being approached by filmmakers who want to bring her story on celluloid and actresses like Huma Qureshi have reportedly shown interest in portraying her. Arunima is determined to finish the ‘Seven Summits’. “Vinson Massif in Antarctica is the only one left now. But there are 11 other peaks of over 8,000m elevation in the Himalayas.
