Eye on the Sky, Rafales Coming Home



A set of 5 Rafale Jets are on their way to India after they were released from France for India as the first tranche of jets coming to Indian shores. With an eye on the sky, India’s new Rafale fighters are all set to rule. These Jets will enhance defensive capabilities of the Airforce. Seen as a game changer for the Indian Airforce, it is equipped with advanced weaponry, high-tech sensors and superior radar. It is highly capable of detecting and tracking targets with an intrinsic ability to carry massive payload. It also has the extraordinary missile capabilities making ground targets accessible from standoff ranges. Its maximum take-off weight is unmatched in aircraft of the same class, says an official. While its empty weight is 10 tonnes , the maximum take-off weight is around 25 tonnes. It carries almost 10 tonnes of weapons and five tonnes of fuel. A complete radar and weapons package makes it a formidable platform says Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha (retd), a former IAF chief. NDA’s decision to enter a government-to-government deal with France to buy 36 Rafale warplanes was announced in April 2015. The deal was signed a little over a year later. This replaced UPA’s decision to buy 126 Rafale aircraft, 108 of which were to be made in India by HAL
