Twins are not something out of this world but when you have a village full of twins then you maze well take note of such a place.

The Muslim majority Kodheni village in Malappuram district of Kerala has the dubious distinction of having the highest number of twins in one single place. This village in India has about 350 pairs of twins. Now popular as the “village of twins” from newborn to 65 years of age you will find many shades and hues of twins.

The Kodheni village reportedly has a record of 45 children twins being born in every 1000 children in this village. This is an average which is second highest in the whole world, but in Asia this village comes first. There were 15 twins in 300 children. In the last 10 years this figure has increased rapidly.

The villagers believe that the birth of twins in the village started almost 70 years ago. The oldest twin of this village is Abdul Hameed, 65, and his twin sister, Kunhe Kadiya. The villagers believe that since this, the twins started taking birth in the village. In the early years, so many twins were not born in this village, but villagers believe that in the last 10 years, the birth of twins in the village has increased rapidly.

People here are yet to unravel the mystery behind the high frequency of twins in the village. Doctors are yet to crack the mystery behind this phenomenon.

Due to the high number of twins in the village, people of this village also suffer a lot.

Most difficulty is in school, teachers fail to distinguish between children. On the other hand if one gets sick among these twins then the other gets sick.

Kodheni village has become quite popular all over the world. Many large media houses have come to this village to tell their story. Not only that, many scientists from abroad have come to research in this village.
