Uttarkashi awaits its moment of ministerial pride

Serene Uttarakhand

As time ticks, Uttarkashi is a district that is preparing for the Char Dham Yatra which will start this April. But politically all eyes are now on the Trivendra Singh Rawat government as well. As three years of the Trivendra government come to an end, whether the Ganga Yamuna maternal home gets representation in a cabinet expansion remains to be seen. In the past no minister has been able to occupy a berth under BJP rule. Independent Pritam Singh Panwar, who won from Yamunotri under Congress rule in 2012, became a minister in the coalition government.

Before the formation of the state, the entire Uttarkashi district had an assembly seat. At that time, the whole of Uttarakhand had just 19 assembly seats, unlike the 70 now. Many names such as Brahadatta, Barfia Lal Junwatha, Baldev Singh Arya, Gyanachandra from this region got ministerial positions in different governments. Both the state government and the central government.

This process has weakened after the formation of a separate Uttarakhand state. In the delimitation after formation of the state, there are four seats in Uttarkashi district. Gangotri, Yamunotri, Purola and Dhanolti.

Of these, the Gangotri, Yamunotri are with the BJP. Purola is with the Congress and Dhanaulti rests with the Independents.

For Uttarkashi region the arguments on representation in the cabinet are umpteen.

The district has not been represented in the BJP rule for a long time. The BJP performs well in every election in this district. Apart from this, there is currently no minister in the Trivendra government from the Tehri Lok Sabha constituency.

The entire district of Uttarkashi comes under the Tehri Lok Sabha constituency. There is only one answer from MLAs to BJP workers and leaders on the question that is, it is for the party and the chief minister to decide, but in informal negotiations, everyone believes that if things happen in view of the development of the frontier region and its strategic importance, then it must be given representation in the cabinet.

However, government spokespersons repeatedly have said that the CM has this privilege. Keeping all the things in mind, the CM has to decide on this.
