UP CM Yogi follows social isolation, even as father breathes last, to skip last rites

At around midnight, there was growing buzz in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday that the father of UP CM Yogi Adityanath, Anand Singh Bisht at the age of 89 passed away at AIIMS after prolonged illness. Officially though it was in the daytime at 10:44 on Monday morning that the news became official of the tragic death. Anand Singh Bisht died after a long illness. The last rites of the father of the saffron clad Yogi will be held at the ancestral village Panchur in Yamkeshwar tehsil in Pauri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand.

The news came at a time when the much talked about Team 11 was doing its regular meeting on tackling the COVID – 19 crisis in the state. In keeping with his promise to attend the crisis first, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken the difficult decision not to attend the funeral of his father, preferring to stick to his job of the larger national interest despite Pitrishoka. The body of the deceased is stated to reach his native village later on Monday night.

When informed of his father’s passing away after sitting quietly for a few moments, he started discussing with the authorities the strategy for the lockdown, even though teary eyed. The meeting reportedly lasted for a nearly 30 minutes period.

The information was given out by Additional Chief Secretary Home Avanish Awasthi through Twitter after the meeting ended. In a letter Yogi wrote – I am deeply saddened by my revered father leaving us all. He is the creator of my Purvashram. In my childhood, he gave me the rites of working with honesty in life, hard work and selfless spirit dedicated to the well being of the masses. I had a great desire to see him at the last minute, but I could not do it because of the duty to pursue the country’s fight against the global pandemic Corona virus in the interest of 23 crore people of Uttar Pradesh, wrote CM Yogi Adityanath. CM Yogi’s father Anand Singh Bisht was a retired officer of the forest department.

Bisht left with one wish remaining unfulfilled. Yogi’s father always wanted his son to become the PM of India. He it is reported saw striking parallels between Yogi Adityanath and the current PM, Narendra Modi. This was a wish he had made public during a press conference.

Anand Singh Bisht, the father of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was also upset for not reaching the son’s swearing-in ceremony. He had said that he was supposed to catch a flight with his wife on the day of the ceremony, but due to short time, due to the large number of guests coming to the house, he decided to stay at home and had to be content with watching the ceremony on TV.

In a conversation with Dainik Jagran, he had then said that Yogi Adityanath’s tenure as of now was highly successful and for the first time an Aam Aadmi government was formed in UP. He said that Yogis are engaged in strictly implementing reformist policies. For this, he did not pay any attention to the protest, because it is in the interest of UP.

Many political personalities, including Governor Anandiben Patel, BJP state president Swatantra Dev Singh, SP president Akhilesh Yadav, BSP supremo Mayawati and Congress state president Ajay Kumar Lallu, mourned the death of Bisht, sending heartfelt condolences.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath was born on 5 January 1972 in Panchur village of Yamkeshwar block in Pauri district of Uttarakhand (then UP). His Elementary education took place in this village. He then did his BSc in Mathematics from Kotdwar Degree College. The real name of Yogi Adityanath is Ajay Singh.
