In a day and age when life is fast paced and people care little, Lucknow’s Bhaiyyaji has always remained grounded despite his stature as a freedom fighter and social worker.
Over the years the mushairas, the poet meets and the Durga Pujas have seen one man quietly meeting and greeting people. Taking care of the arrangements and if required getting things fixed and put in order so that the local pubic does not suffer.
Someone who never craved for publicity, today Bhaiyyaji battles for his life in a hospital in the city. A man known for his trademark kurta, pyjama and moustache is being fed with a riles tube.
Born Rajendra Nath Shrivastav he earned the title of Bhaiyyaji in the city.
It’s his loving, blessing and caring nature that helped cut through the ice fast.
His well wishers pray for his speedy recovery.
Bhaiyyaji, 86, suffers from blood pressure and other diseases with old age in the ICU of the Civil Hospital.
On November 16, 1930, he had come to Lucknow with his father, Dr. Raghubir Sharan Shrivastav.
Bhaiyyaji studied BA, MA and Diploma in Social Work from Lucknow University.
After which he got involved in social service.
Being a social worker, Bhaiya ji remained unmarried all his life.
A close confidante of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Bhaiyya ji has got over 200 honors in the field of social service. He has been associated with Mother Teresa’s organization.
Bhaiyyaji has been a lifelong social worker and has participated in many freedom movements and wars though he makes no claim of this sort say well wishers.
Bhaiyya ji also put his journalistic acumen to full use in his heyday.
When the municipality was formed in Lucknow in 1959, the first member of the council was Bhaiyya ji.
After this he was also a councilor in Narahi Ward in 1990.
We wish Bhaiyyaji comes out of this phase and gets back on his feet again.
