In an era when social media is changing with leaps and bounds and letters have now been turned redundant with emails and messaging services, a temple in Rajasthan receives 1000 letters for Ganesha each day.
In this temple in Rajasthan the postman delivers about a 1000 letters each day. The address reads: Trinity Ganesha Temple, Sawai Madhopur, Ranthambore, Rajasthan, 32202. The temple is located in Ranthambore Fort.
Referred to as Vignaharta, Ganesha here is offered all the letters. The priest presents all the hand written letters to Lord Ganesha. It is believed that Lord Ganesha, eliminates all problems of the worshippers and fulfills their desires written in the letters. These letters are recited by priests of the temple.
Some say marriage invitations are posted 15 days prior so that it can be offered to the deity in time. It was when King Hammir dreamt of Lord Ganesha, assuring him that all his problems would be resolved when the temple was constructed in the 13th century by King Hammiradeva.
Hammiradeva was part of a fierce battle for several years until he ran out of funds and capital. King Hammir won the war and constructed the temple devoted to Lord Ganesha in Ranthambore.
One of the interesting facts of the temple is that it houses Ganesha’s family with idols of his wives- ‘Ridhi and Sidhi’ and two sons- ‘Shub and Labh’ with his unique ride, the mushak (mouse).
The Ganeshotsava is the biggest festivals of the country, especially Maharashtra. It is observed during the Hindu calendar month of Bhadrapada, starting on the shukla chaturthi.
Shhodashopachara is one of the four main rituals observed during Ganesh Chaturthi.
Shhodashopachara means 16 ways of paying tribute to Lord Ganesha.
The first Ganesh Chaturthi celebration dates back to the era of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja.
Throughout Ganesh Chaturthi, Vedic hymns from the Rig Veda, the Ganapati Atharva Shirsha Upanishad, and the Ganesha stotra from the Narada Purana are chanted.
