Premlata Shinde Battles the odds each day
Everything is viral these days. You go to any website and you will find a viral video section out there. Channels and various media now religiously have viral content and such is the mania that some are smitten by the viral bug big time. In the process we forget that we can go off track trying to give push to the much talked about click bait.
One is often taught not to judge a book by its cover but do we follow it is the million dollar question. Premlata Shinde’s story is sad in that perspective. A video of her working was mocked big time calling it to be the video of the fastest cashier in the world. Turns out she was just a hardworking soul doing her job despite a stroke and two heart attacks.
A Facebook user posted a video on October 24 with the caption ‘Fastest cashier in the world’. The video showed the lady cashier, in a Pune branch of the Bank of Maharashtra, handling a cash transaction in what may seem to many as slo-mo.
It was viewed millions of times and shared over hundreds of thousands of times.
Despite the joke many posted angry comments at the cameraman, who filmed a woman doing her job. Premlata Shinde the person in the video has survived a paralysis stroke and two heart attacks, and just resumed her job.
The internet is an entertaining space, but we do forget most of the times that we are being extremely insensitive and inconsiderate to fellow human beings, regardless of whether we know them in person or not.
The video has been viewed more than 13 million times, and shared over 1,54,000 times.
The video Somisetty shared seemed to have been taken down by Facebook after many people reported it.
The real story of the woman later came out via activist Kundan Srivastava who spelt out the reality. Kundan in a post has said that Shinde had just resumed her work after medical treatments. Though Premlata had enough leaves in hand she chose to work and retire in the normal course. Her idea was to retire with dignity. And this makes her a true winner.
Premalata, a widow, has a son who lives abroad with family. The lady is an inspiration because like millions of women across the world she works hard to make a living and takes care of all expenses needed for her treatment herself.
Even as we discuss and debate the after effects of some trying to play the viral game to spread wrong messages, one can’t help but salute Premlata.
