The world waits with bated breath for January 22 when the convicts in the Dec 16 gangrape will be hanged to death for violating Nirbhaya, a girl who shock the collective conscience of this nation, when she was brutally violated.

As the clock ticks on for that moment when the perpetrators are hanged, the hangman Pawan Jallad has been trending for a rather interesting story.

Hangman Pawan has reportedly planned to plead to the PM Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath for better times. Pawan Jallad (Delhi) a resident of Alok Vihar Colony of Meerut has been part of the hanging business that dates back several generations. Prior to Pawan, his great-grandfather Laxman Singh, grandfather Kallu executioner and father Mammu Singh also used to hang culprits sentenced to death. The way has been paved for executing the culprits of the Nirbhaya Gangrape case in Tihar Jail. Patiala House Court has signed the death warrants of the four accused in the gangrape case. Preparations are almost through to call Pawan to come and execute the criminals.

Before hanging, Pawan has planned to make a touching appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. He in a letter has said it has become difficult to even live. On the agenda of Pawan is a letter that he will shoot to the President of India apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Home Minister, National Human Rights Commission and UP Prison Department to increase their honorarium.

Pawan’s wife has a family with small and big brothers with children.

After the father, he has been doing this work in various jails. Till some time ago he would get honorarium of three thousand rupees a month from Meerut jail. After his untiring efforts, the honorarium was increased to five thousand rupees.

In today’s era of inflation, now even five thousand rupees is proving insufficient for him. It is becoming increasingly difficult to raise a family. Pawan has made repeated calls to concerned officials to increase the honorarium for a long time. But to no avail.

With an unending economic burden at home, Pawan faces dire straits at home. A troubled household coupled with grownup children has made things difficult on the education front as well. Many times, even the fees of the school is not available. Seeing this problem, now Pawan’s son plans to chart different course for himself. Pawan has now started selling reasonably decent clothes in not so expensive prices twice a day which gives him some income that suffices for two loaves of bread.
