While 102 Not Out is yet to hit the big screens this summer, it makes an important viewing not just for the old but also for those who believe being old makes one cranky and unbearable. Which as a consequence results in people asking their parents to leave home and fend for themselves when all that they want is a little bit of love and caring.
Amitabh Bachchan in a press conference recently said that senior citizens should not be marginalized but be treated with dignity and respect. He said – the old were respected members of the society and one hoped to send the message loud and clear to the common folk and the audience at large.
His comments come at a time when recent reports show that the old are highly vulnerable to abuse at home. This irrespective of their social and economic status. Of every 10 elderly couples in India, more than 6 are forced by their children to leave their homes.
A survey few years back showed that nearly 65 per cent of aged had no source of known income.
There are 81 million older people in India-11 lakh in Delhi itself. Nearly 40% of senior citizens living with their families are reportedly facing abuse of one kind or another, but only 1 in 6 cases actually comes to light.
UN estimates go to show that by 2025 the global population of people aged 60 years will touch about 1.2 billion and globally around 4 per cent to 6 per cent of elderly have experienced some form of maltreatment at home.
Denying an old person food, medications, blackmailing emotionally, threatening, shouting, abusing and beating or even tying up people are some of the many cases possible.
102 not out is a story about a 102-year-old man who wants to break the record of being the oldest living male. But the catch is that he is desperate to change the sad and grumpy appearance of his 75-year-old son.
Apart from leads like Rishi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan it has faces like Gujarati actor Jimit Trivedi, who was last seen in Akshay Kumar’s Bhool Bhulaiya. It is a Umesh Shukla directorial based on a Gujarati play of a same name written and directed by Saumya Joshi.
102 Not Out releases on May 4, 2018 a film the Bachchan – Kapoor duo decided on in 10 minutes.
The two come together on screen to cast a spell after 27 years.
They have earlier appeared together in films such as Kabhie Kabhie, Amar Akbar Anthony, Naseeb, Coolie and Ajooba.
In the trailer, Bachchan is seen as a jovial father, while Kapoor appears as a dull and boring son.
The Oh My God Director Umesh Shukla is quoted by the media saying that the old must not let the kid in them die, however difficult it might be.
