Rahul Gandhi is being called the new leader of the country, a man marking the generational shift in national politics, especially with regards to the grand old party. He is being debated over as rumours are abuzz about his elevation as Congress President given the ailing health of mother Sonia Gandhi.
But Guess what? What if you saw him selling fried chicken at a roadside eatery in Surat. Don’t get surprised, the person you come across will be Prashant Sethi and the story will remind you of Dilip Kumar starrer Ram Aur Shyam.
Rahul Gandhi’s elevation to the post of President has been a much awaited move of the Congress. When years back Gandhi scion was declared the No 2 in the Congress Party at the Jaipur Chintan Shivir, celebrations broke out at several parts of the country. The Gandhi bastion Amethi, Rae Bareli was alive and rocking on the day. People who could be easily called Rahul’s extended family were falling short of words to express themselves.
But for then 24 year old Prashant Sethi it was time to hog limelight.
Prashant Sethi speaking to newsman that day reminisced how the Rahul Identity came to happen, he said, “I was only 21, when my customers and my family members started saying that I look like Rahul Gandhi. That time I also felt that I want to look like what I am and not like Rahul.”
Prashant a roadside eatery vendor saw people thronging at his stall, not because they wanted to treat their taste buds to food, but to congratulate, the Rahul Gandhi of Surat. Yes If Rahul Gandhi is Ram, then Prashant Sethi is “Shyam”. Both look alike.
Prashant ecstatic as he was he threw an impromptu party for his regulars. Those who know him called him Rahul, who is a second generation Punjabi migrant from Haryana.
Prashant is in a steady and happy marriage with his better half Gunjan. His friends have even saved his mobile number as ‘Rahul’. He even gets dimples like Rahul when he smiles.
The smile, the voice and the style of speaking makes him look like Rahul Gandhi. At times when his friends gather they take him to be Rahul Gandhi which amuses every one.
Prashant once felt the urge to join the Youth Congress but then he left it to concentrate on his business. He is even prompt in saying that some are friends with him just because he is a Rahul lookalike.
Prashant holds a Bachelors degree in Arts.
Some clients even get themselves photographed with him to upload on Facebook. Given the popularity of his joint, Prashant is dreaming big. If not the Yuvraj of politics, he surely wants to become the Yuvraj in his choice of field..
