JOLLY LLB 2 – POSTER
Written and Directed by Subhash Kapoor, Jolly LLB2 comes at an interesting time. While it may tickle your funny bone, going by the trailer, it also delves deep into how legal cases are pending in courts, underlining the much talked about – Justice Delayed is Justice Denied axiom.
Going by the trailer and the reviews, the Akshay Kumar starrer is a story of a small time lawyer, Jagdishwar Mishra (aka Jolly) in Lucknow, who wants to make it big in the legal arena. His girlfriend Pushpa Pandey is played by Huma Qureshi and his rival in court Advocate Mathur is played by Annu Kapoor.
Actors Inaamulhaq and Manav Kaul are new members of the series. Jolly LLB 2 has been shot in Manali and bylanes of Lucknow.
The movie shows Akshay Kumar as a lawyer who is troubled with structured corruption and decides to take on the nexus of police, judiciary and criminals.
The movies focus on issues like graft, terrorism and under pressure judges is a subject that is much needed at this point. Several recent reports have thrown light on how legal cases remain pending and justice is too delayed in the Indian system.
Akshay Kumar is also gearing up for release of Shankar’s 2.0 where he plays antagonist opposite Rajinikanth. 2.0 is sequel to Rajinikanth’s Enthiran.
Khiladi Kumar’s other projects are Neeraj Pandey’s Crack and Toilet – Ek Prem Katha with Bhumi Pednekar.
LEGAL QUAGMIRE
Former CJI TS Thakur had last year spoken of how courts were running short of judges and the time to clear back log of cases is high. He had then said that India needs atleast 70,000 judges to clear the backlog. Even former CJI HL Dattu had hinted at the point.
There are nearly 3 crore cases that are still pending in the different courts of India. While there are more than 30 lakh cases pending in the high courts. Out of the 900 sanctioned strength of judges in high courts, around 450 posts are lying vacant.
According to some estimates going by the numbers it will take atleast 466 years for Delhi HC to clear its backlog.
India has only 1/5th the number of judges it actually needs.
Records suggest that the Narendra Modi government has allocated Rs 806 crore towards judicial upgradation this year.
Nearly 2.7 lakh under trials are currently present in jails.

While the movie in itself may be caught in a legal tangle in a defamation case, it is also imperative that the message to get things going in courts be sent out loud and clear.
