Donald Trump – the Big Brother of Haryana’s Trump village
When US went to polls, one village in UP was doing havans and performing rituals for Hillary Clinton to win. The village was Jabrauli which had a strong connect with the once first lady Hillary Clinton.
Things are no different for her rival and now US President, Donald Trump. Haryana’s 80% Muslim dominated Marora village has special plans for this Rakshabandhan.
With the village rechristened as Trump village, nearly a 1001 sacred threads are on their way to Trump as a mark of gratitude this Rakshabandhan, even though Trump has no idea of the festival in India.
About 501 rakhis are also dedicated to PM Narendra Modi. Women and girls in Marora consider them their elder brothers.
Sent through cargo it will reach US president on Raksha Bandhan on August 7. Villagers want both heads to visit the village sometime soon.
Special Trump Rakhis for the US President
“In the village, more than 75% of families belong to below poverty level, so development is our only concern,” says a former sarpanch to a news outlet.
Marora panchayat has three villages — Marora, Nizampur and Jhawa. Most villagers are landless labourers who earn their livelihood either working at fields or construction sites.
The district administration recently intervened saying renaming was illegal and boards publicizing the new name were removed.
Sulabh International interestingly is taking babysteps towards PM Modi’s dream of making India ODF by 2019. It constructed 95 toilets in Marora recently.
A village, with a net population of 1,800 people, it is situated under the Punhana Tehshil, 60 km from Gurgaon.
The village has 140 houses and only 45 of them were equipped with toilet facility.

One of the reasons cited for renaming the village has been that basic facilities like electricity and running water were lacking, which could be addressed this way.
Billboards declaring “Welcome to Trump Village” in Hindi and English, accompanied with a portrait of the US president ahead of Modi’s last US visit had come up prominently.
Sulabh International in a recent statement says these are signs, residents of Trump village in the backward Mewat region want people to people ties between US and India to improve.
It was Sulabh International Social Service Organisation chief Bindeshwar Pathak who took the lead in renaming it ‘Trump’s village’.
In 1978, Daulatpur Nasirabad, a village in Gurgaon, became Carterpuri after then US President Jimmy Carter visited with his wife.
Meanwhile US too has its Trump Village which opened in 1964, consisting of five co-op buildings and two rental buildings. It provides affordable rental and cooperative housing to moderate- and middle-income families.
