Dr. Naresh Trehan’s love affair with the city of Lucknow started 50 years back when he passed out from the corridors of KGMC completing his M.B.B.S. In half a century from then the flame is still very much alive. From 1969 to 2019, each day for Dr. Trehan has gone by hoping to one day give back to this great city something that will definitely touch a zillion lives through good healthcare. Back in the day when he was just getting started with life, there were no good healthcare facilities barring a handful. He had then itself decided that one day he will give to the city something at par with the world renowned Mayo, Cleveland and Harvard. He smiles saying anyone who has consumed Gomti water cannot forget it. It is that serene memory of Lucknow and the will to pay back in kind to Lucknow that took him abroad where he spent 20 years training in the US.
Returning to India he setup the Escorts Heart Institute. But his real dream of something good for Lucknow has come alive with the 1000 bed super speciality hospital Medanta Awadh. Even Dr Trehan maintains that in a city like Lucknow cardiac issues along with cancer, diabetes and other serious ailments collectively cause extensive problems.
Medanta as per Dr. Trehan offers facilities like immediate triage, heart command angiography, along with minimal needle time. With road traffic, the problems treble hence there will be a resuscitation room for the patients and there will be a room for dialysis for the old along with easy accessibility.
The setup has around 200 doctors along with a 1000 bed facility. 30 operating zones with world class facilities ensure cost effective treatment of a different kind. “I must ensure you that a patient comes with the hope of complete recovery and returning home cured. There however are times when the public talks of ignorance. A doctor does not give the disease, so when one reports, he or she must give all sides of the story. Doctors must be seen in the light of caregivers and those who try their level best to ensure that a patient goes back hale and hearty. Needless blaming does not work, but having said that I also understand the challenges that a media person faces because my better half happens to be the founding member of the India Today family.” said Dr Trehan
Dr. Trehan further said, “I can assure you that we will not go beyond the realm of law at Medanta even we want transparency. And pricing will be set as per rules and norms. The population of UP is around 20 crore which is half of Europe and demand for good health care remains high. With diseases like Chikungunya, dengue and brain fever a recurring phenomenon, steps like Ayushman remains a very well thoughtout scheme and we believe that the lowest rung must benefit from such schemes. Sadly half the country does not get health care properly. As far as Robotics is concerned kidney transplant, Gynae, liver, heart and ENT all will come under the Robotics department.”
