Bollywood’s Lonely Captain Cool logs out with a rope trick

Sushant Singh Rajput

With his death Sushant Singh Rajput leaves a lump in the throat

At 34, a strained relation, lack of offers in films, a growing void in life, for days on staying away from his parents and ofcourse the lockdown, all seemed to have had a heavy toll on him. When late Sushant Singh Rajput’s onscreen father Anupam Kher went live on his facebook page, he had tears in his eyes. Falling short of words, all he could say was that sometimes you don’t know why things happen. He said that it is very important that one gets the chance to speak, the chance to make somebody hear what is being said and also get to feel loved to avoid that sinking feeling. Many from the film fraternity urged people to be more sensitive, empathetic and available to their close ones who might be silently suffering. The death of the star has brought back the spotlight on mental health care with celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Karan Johar, Anushka Sharma, Richa Chadha calling for those who face hard times.

Celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani after Rajput’s death said that he had been facing hardtimes in the past few years.

There has been an overpouring of emotions often talking of the problem of depression and loneliness, when you move away from the arc lights. There are those who said that Sushant should have spoken to someone. 34 was too ripe an age to go. There was also that sense one got from the messages that he felt a deep sense of pain without his mother. Some while reporting referred to an Instagram post where days back he had reminisced his mother.

As a 34 year old when I write this, I basically am taken back to that classic line that Abhi to poori Zindagi Padhi Thi. But depression is like that, it sucks out your life and your ability to communicate. It does not give you that chance to typically do the LOL in real life. Sushant was not the first on the suicide front and he definitely is not the last, but one will always ask that critical question that when Sushant needed the close comrades did they turn up by his side? And do last minute RIP and hollow tear jerkers actually have any meaning in real life? Definitely doesn’t in my mind’s eye.

Sushant Singh Rajput as an actor who was seen in several films in Bollywood in his film Chhichhore had belted out a dialogue – Hum haar jeet, success failure mein itna ulajh gaye hai … ki zindagi jeena bhool gaye hai … zindagi mein agar kuch sabse zyada important hai … toh woh hai khud zindagi. Sadly in real life the star could not live up to those words. The man who set the benchmark high with television show ‘Pavitra Rishta’ and later making his foray into films with ‘Kai Po Che!’ in 2013. He became a raging hit with films like ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’, ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’, ‘Raabta’, ‘Kedarnath’ and ‘Sonchiriya’. He also did Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Chhichhore’.

His film Dil Bechara is yet to be released directed by Mukesh Chhabra. His last was Netflix Drive, co-starring Jacqueline Fernandez. Acts like, PK too remain memorable. He was found dead at his Bandra residence in Mumbai in what is being seen as suspected suicide. This even though no suicide note has been recovered. Things came to light after a domestic help raised alarm. The cops at Bandra brought the actor’s body to Dr RN Cooper Municipal General Hospital from his residence. Tested for COVID – 19, he was taken for post mortem.

Meanwhile as the news of his demise spread like wildfire, a huge crowd gathered at his Patna residence. They said the condition of the actor’s father Krishna Kumar Singh has deteriorated and he is not in a position to speak. The news of Sushant’s death came home via telephone. Rajput’s eldest sister, who lives in Chandigarh informed the family she would be arriving by flight later in the day and accompany the father to Mumbai.

Sushant Singh’s childhood was spent in Patna. A resident of Rajiv Nagar, he found cricket a great sport to try his hands on. He used to play cricket on the streets with friends.

His manager, 28-year-old Disha Salian died on June 9.
