Bollywood and its trip down Thoktantra Lane

There have been a multitude of films that have been made on encounters. Amidst the very highly rated films are seven that have fast caught the fancy of the moviegoers over the years. Vikas Dubey’s case is no less filmy. Among the 7 best movies based on stories around big cops and encounters are like Nana Patekar’s Ab Tak Chhappan which was released in 2004. The film was based on the life of Mumbai Police encounter specialist Daya Nayak.

Gangster thriller – Shootout at Wadala was based on the encounter of criminal Manya Surve who was shot dead by the Mumbai Police in Wadala in 1982. In the film, John Abraham played the role of a gangster, Anil Kapoor in the movie played the role of an encounter specialist.

A followup of sorts – Shootout at Lokhandwala was based on a police and gangster clash of 1991 which was given shape in broad daylight. In the film Shootout at Lokhandwala the main leads are played by Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Amitabh Bachchan and Vivek Oberoi. The film sees Vivek playing the gangster.

Recreating the Batla House encounter – Batla House recreates the story behind the Batla house encounter in which John Abraham plays the lead.  His character is based on Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who plays a key role in the real encounter.

Highly popular cop story – Khaki meanwhile is about a suspected terrorist who was captured from a small town, in this film. The film delves into how the cops are the real villain sometimes and how Ajay Devgan later faces the encounter bullet and fallsafter a major confrontation.

Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan starrer Simmba became quite a hit. In the film, hero Ranveer Singh’s sister is raped and killed, after which Ranveer Singh encounters and kills his sister’s killers.

Last comes Garv. It is a story where Salman Khan plays a policeman in the film. His sister gets raped and takes revenge by encountering the accused.
