In a major blow to the Chinese, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has cancelled the tender of a Chinese company for the Kanpur and Agra Metro due to technical shortfalls The company will not be able to supply coaches for Metros anymore. Pushing Make in India further, the tender has now been given to the Indian company.
In both projects, both projects will be supplied coaches for 67 trains by a group of Indian companies. Reports are coming out that the company being considered is one from Gujarat. And the name of this consortium is Bombardier. Each of these 67 trains will have 3 coaches, out of which 39 trains will be for Kanpur and 28 trains will be for Agra.
The UP Metro has done international bidding for rolling stocks and signaling systems. Four international companies participated in it. For this, the Chinese company CRRC Nanjing Pujhen Limited also submitted the tender but due to technical flaws, the Chinese company was disqualified.
The media has quoted UPMRC managing director Kumar Keshav saying international competitive bids for rolling stocks and signaling systems were invited, under which 4 international companies participated in the tender process and submitted their tenders on 18 February 2020. Three bidders were chosen for the financial bid and Bombardier India Private Limited was awarded the lowest bidding company.
The special feature of the proposed Mass Rapid Transit System for Kanpur and Agra is that the distance between the two stations (about one kilometer) in both the places, the speed limit of the metro that will run here has been set at 80 kilometers per hour, while the maximum speed of these trains will be 90 kilometers per hour.
UPMRC has said that Kanpur and Agra are on the same lines as Lucknow. This experiment was done for the first time in the country for the Lucknow metro project, which was quite successful.Significantly, earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Department announced a ban on the use of Chinese electricity meters and other equipment. The Indonesian company supplying this meter was originally said to be from China. After this, their use was banned.
