If you thought Wasseypur was all about violence, explitives, blood and gore, you could be relating to Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur. Here’s the flipside. Young lad, Aman Bhardwaj motivates children to study well and become good citizens.
Aman Bhardwaj has taken up the challenge of rechristening the image of Wasseypur, which appeared nothing less than a sordid and gruesome tale. Aman is working towards a Wasseypur, which has children smiling, happy and not living under fear. He is one who dreams of a bright future for the children of the area.
Aman who was from Sahebganj came to Dhanbad in 2006. He came here for pursuing Higher Education. To get education in how Mining works, he joined the only Institute imparting knowledge in mining, the Indian School of Mining.
He not only made it a point to study himself, but he also taught slum children in his spare time. After testing them and bringing the children at par with others, he made sure the children got admission to Convent Schools.
Teachers tell an agency, “I study here and also teach in the afternoon to juniors. This region is backward and uncared .Just need to eradicate the odds , I teach them specially the girl child and to show them that our region is not just about crime news, there is great development.”
When Aman passed out in 2010, he wished to do something for the children of Wasseypur. He opened a study centre for the children of Wasseypur in Dhanbad. Meanwhile he also got selected for a job in Coal India. Those studying at the Centre are all from humble backgrounds, but they are now a confident and happy lot. Even those Muslims girls who were not initially allowed to move out are now experiencing the outside world.
Aman Bhardwaj, Founder of Disha says, “In 2006 I took admission in ISM and passed out in 2010 during that phase of mine came across many challenges. I always wanted to work for people from weaker backgrounds.”
One of the localities of Wasseypur is Pandarpala, it is around 3 km from Dhanbad. Aman, Shadab and other likeminded pro development people did a survey in the area and realised, that those at the age of studies were busy earning for the family, the girls were found busy with household errands.
This was when they started the Disha institute which has now become a runaway hit in Dhanbad.
Santosh Singh (28) and Shadab Ansari (26), lawyers of Dhanbad court, have teamed up with ISM alumnus Aman Bhardwaj (23) and NGO Iqra Foundation among others to teach children of daily wage earners
The parents are coal pickers, rickshaw-pullers, rag-pickers, maidservants, vendors and others.
These children earlier worked in agarbatti-making, bangle factories and paper bag manufacturing units.
Aman Bhardwaj told an agency, “There were few obstacles but we have overcome all the odds and still have miles to go for success. ”
The fees and the stationery is all taken care of, by Disha. The group inaugurated the venture on International Human Rights Day on December 10, 2011, calling the project Disha. Not only are the children satisfied, the parents are now hopeful of a better tomorrow.
Teething troubles were there but that has not deterred Aman Bhardwaj. Girls are also taught here who are given knowledge of worldly affairs.
Students tell media outlets they like the faculty and feel the facultyis well placed to mpart quality education.
The names of rival dons Sabir Alam and Fahim Khan, lords of two mafia families are associated with Wasseypur. Though out on bail after spending eight years in jail, Sabir Alam rarely stays at home due to the threat to his life. Meanwhile Fahim Khan, who is still alive and in the Hazaribagh jail currently, is son of Shafi Khan, who had a rivalry with Surya Dev Singh.
Wasseypur is among the worst affected district in Bihar, It also bears a bad name because of high crime rate.
The Wasseypur which was known as the epicentre of Mafia don Fahim khan’s activity.
The city which used to have rifles and ammunitions lying in houses , today has a different outlook towards life.
Aman Bhardwaj and his associates have taken education to each house. Now there are children playing in the courtyard and reading and writing to live a better tomorrow.
It would not be wrong to suggest, that one day if Anurag Kashyap works on yet another sequel of Gangs of Wasseypur; gun toting men and cuss mouthing women would be history.
