In the rainy season snakes are visible and snakebites are frequent. This often amplifies the frequency of deaths. Despite several dangers, snakes are good friends of farmers. Snakes prove to be helpful in good yields.
A 26 year old young boy from Lucknow regards snakes as his daughters, and talks about not killing them.
Aditya Tiwari (26) resident of Lucknow, Alambagh has been catching snakes since childhood.
He laughs off the idea of catching a snake saying when he caught a snake in his socks he did not know anything about it, the snake later managed to slither away. Many poisonous creatures, including snakes, come out due to flooding of holes surrounding the fields in the rainy season.
About three hundred species of snakes are found in India, 70 percent of them are not poisonous. The most poisonous snakes in Uttar Pradesh are only three. Russell Wiper, Karet and Cobra having different characteristics.
Aditya speaking to local media outlet points out, “No snake attacks until it feels threatened. Snakes first try to escape, but when people try to harm them , then they attack. Usually, snakes found in the village are Dhamins, water snakes and other common snakes. ”
Aditya further says, “A Snake never creates a hole for itself, it lives in a rat hole.” Snakes are on the lookout for rats who are in ratholes during monsoons. It is this characteristic of a snake that helps aid farmers in a great way.
70 percent of snakes are not poisonous. One must bind a snakebite with a thick cloth, which will slow down flow of blood. Never should someone try an incision which can be counter – productive.
The effect of the snakebite is on the nervous system. With an incision in the wound, the supply of the blood will decrease and the condition may worsen.
