A temple where Shani is worshipped as a slayer of corruption

kanpur-temple

There is a saying in Hindi, Bhagwan ke Ghar mein der hai Andher Nahi (God might take time do justice but he surely does so, because his resting place has no darkness).

This is coming out to be true in terms of people’s faith on him to end corruption. In Kanpur,a Shani Mandir works towards warding off the corrupt.

Shani, the son of Surya(sun) and Shadow (Chhaya) is worshipped at a unique temple in Kanpur. Shani is generally considered to be one who is dreaded, but people here are worshipping him to end corruption.

The Industrial city of Kanpur houses the Bhrasht Tantra Vinashak Shani Mandir.

As soon as you enter the temple you are confronted with a unique signboard which reads, corrupt representatives and bureaucrats not allowed. The temple has the photos of all corrupt officials displayed in front of the God.

People coming to the temple pray to the god that he curse those who are corrupt and make the corrupt walk on the right path. The prayers are for drilling good sense in such people.

Fighting against the corrupt the person behind the temple had fought a long battle for nearly two decades. After filing multiple writ petitions he realized that only supernatural powers can ward off the corrupt. He installed three idols of ‘Shani Dev’ in 2010.

Pictures of those involved in corrupt practices are in full display. On one side there are pictures of leaders who are required to pull up their socks and work honestly.

The foundation stone of the temple was laid by Bobby Sharma and Ruby Sharma in the year 2010 as an anti corruption drive.

The temple is situated in Kidwai Nagar in Kanpur. There are photos of corrupt IAS, PCS, Ministers and bureaucrats inside the temple. Such people are strictly prohibited from entering the temple.

Those who have faced corruption or have certain grievances against someone can use a drop box kept in the inner sanctum.

So far, what the so called guardians of civil society could not do, we hope Shani would bring that change.

As per Hindu mythology, Shani is the elder brother of Yama, the god of death. In some of the scriptures he corresponds to one who delivers justice.

Surya’s two sons are Shani and Yama. While Yama is god of death, Shani gives results of one’s deeds through one’s life through appropriate punishments and rewards.
